
Biography
Shelley is a licensed mental health counselor in the State of Florida. She graduated from Northeast Louisiana University, now known as the University of Louisiana at Monroe, with a Master's degree in Community Counseling in 1990. Her undergraduate degree is in Behavioral Science. She is also a Certified Forensic Addiction Specialist.
She has been in private practice since 1999, but began her mental health counseling career at the Lakeview Center in Pensacola Florida in 1994. There she gained experience in mental health triage and assessments as well as drug and alcohol evaluations. Shelley has completed additional training the the area of psychopharmacology and is proud to be able to offer her clients much needed education on any medication they may have been prescribed.
Shelley specialized in the affective disorders(depression, bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, etc. ) and adult ADD.
Her counseling style varies as does the needs of her clients. After assessing someone, she chooses the style that will best benefit the individual . Some styles used most frequently are cognitive behavioral, rational emotive and existential therapy among others. Shelley believes that each person deserves customized care. You won't get "cookie cutter counseling" here.
As an owner/lover of cats, dogs and ferrets for the last 24 years, animals are an important part of Shelley's life. She believes animals can be an essential part of good mental health for some. She enjoys helping others with pet issues such as grief over loss or illness. Some clients are even able to bring their pets to therapy sessions.
